CASSANDRA: The irony

Hello my friends! How are you guys doing? We have been working very hard, and landed some new and exciting projects.

Before introducing the new piece, let just add that one of the Co-Owners of UNDA (Liliana Neves) is going to be in Vilnius – Lithuania from 29th of April to 13th of May, and if anyone needs to talk to her personally, just contact UNDA team.

This new piece is called Cassandra, a bedside table, and has some Greek mythological inspirations. Cassandra was the daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba and the twin sister of Helenus. She was said to have had brown hair kept in curls, brown eyes,and fair skin and she was very beautiful, intelligent, charming, desirable, elegant, friendly, and gentle, but she was considered to be insane. Cassandra was described as the “second most beautiful woman in the world.” Her beauty was even compared to that of Aphrodite and Helen of Troy, and Apollo fell madly in love with her.

She spent a night at Apollo’s temple at which time the temple snakes licked her ears clean so that she was able to hear the future. However, when she did not return his love, Apollo placed a curse on her so that no one would ever believe her predictions. She is a figure both of the epic tradition and of tragedy, where her combination of deep understanding and powerlessness exemplify the ironic condition of humankind.

Cassandra é uma mesa de cabeceira e tem algumas inspirações da mitologia grega. Cassandra era a filha do rei Príamo e Hécuba rainha e irmã gêmea de Heleno. Diz-se ter o cabelo castanho em cachos, olhos castanhos e pele clara e ela era muito bonita, inteligente, charmoso, desejável, elegante, simpático e gentil, mas ela foi considerada maluca. Cassandra foi descrita como a “segunda mulher mais bonita do mundo.” Sua beleza foi mesmo comparada com a de Afrodite e Helena de Tróia, e Apolo se apaixonou loucamente por ela.

Ela passou uma noite no templo de Apolo onde as cobras do templo lamberam suas orelhas de modo que ela era capaz de ouvir e prever o futuro. No entanto, quando ela não retribuiu o seu amor, Apolo lançou-lhe uma maldição onde ninguém acreditaria nas suas premonições. Ela é uma figura tanto da tradição épica e da tragédia, onde a sua combinação de profundo conhecimento e impotência exemplifica o estado irônico da humanidade.
