UNDA is proud to announce that the newest addition to our Collections is almost done. Inspired in the Architectural visions of the Emperor Hadrian from Rome, we are designing a geometric meets desirable details pieces of furniture. In the words of Hadrian:

“One night he came and shook me from my sleep and announced that I should rule the world.”

Hadrian (Latin: Publius Aelius Traianus Hadrianus Augustus, 24 January, 76 AD – 10 July, 138 AD), was Roman Emperor from 117 to 138. He is best known for building Hadrian’s Wall, which marked the northern limit of Roman Britain. In Rome, he re-built the Pantheon and constructed the Temple of Venus and Roma. In addition to being emperor, Hadrian was a humanist and was philhellenein (“the love of Greek culture”) most of his tastes. He was the third of the so-called Five Good Emperors ( Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius).

HOPE: the Battle of Life

To all gentle readers and lovers of the Truth:

No… It’s not just a chair – it’s a Statement, it’s a Battle, a War! The feeling of fear and doubt it’s general to all Mankind, but only the brave and hopeful overcome it! It’s urgent to be the King of your own life; to feel mighty, powerful and capable of all things it’s everyone’s dream.

HOPE is a chair inspired in the Kings of old; the one’s that drew their swords and came home victorious; the one’s who decided the fate of the World. HOPE is the fuel of change, the food of battle and the spur of discontent.

And thee that sits on this Throne is the ruler of all!!

THE OPORTO SHOW 2012 Photos

Hello dear friends! How are you guys doing? Hope the Summer is going well!

Here are some pictures of “The Oporto Show 2012: On Stage” held at Alfândega of Oporto from 14th to 17th of May. Hope you like them!!! We had a blast on this show!

Present Pieces: Boreas, Gaudi, Lotus and a 80 Year-old Restored sideboard.

Aqui estão a fotos prometidas do evento “The Oporto Show 2012: On Stage”, evento este que decorreu na Alfânde do Porto, dos dias 14 a 17 de Maio 2012! Espero que adorem as fotos. A equipa da UNDa divertiu-se imenso!

Peças presentes: Boreas, Gaudi, Lotus e um aparador restaurado pela nossa fábrica com mais de 80 anos.

TSURU: The Wishing Bird

Hello dear friends! UNDA is in love with Origami, so we developed a Table Lamp inspired in the most famous origami: Tsuru (crane), sacred bird of Japan. Legend has it that he lives a thousand years and has the power to grant wishes. If a person folds a thousand Tsurus, his wish will come true.

Tsuru is a symbol of happiness:

“… for over a thousand years, the Japanese wrote poems, stories and popular myths painting it, sculpting it and revered it as a symbol of longevity, happiness, loyalty and good luck. His living habits inspired phrases and metaphors that describe the nippon behavior. Japanese imitated him and tried to dance with him, hunted him, killed him and ate it almost to extinction. They gave their name to the cities and streets, produced small birds of folded paper and hung them carefully in colored garlands for temples and shrines…”

Can you see the resemblance? Just let your dreams come true!!! :)

PT: Olá queridos amigos! A UNDA é uma apixonada por Origami, e desenvolvemos um candeeiro inspirado no mais famoso dos origamis: Tsuru (garça), ave sagrada do Japão.

Diz a lenda que ele vive mil anos e tem o poder de conceder desejos. Se uma pessoa dobrar mil Tsurus e pensar no seu desejo enquanto os dobra, ele será atendido.

Um Tsuru é um grou e, no Japão, é um símbolo de felicidade:

”…por mais de mil anos, os japoneses escreveram poemas, histórias populares e mitos…, pintando-o, esculpindo-o e venerando-o como símbolo de longevidade, felicidade, fidelidade e boa sorte. Os hábitos de vida do animal inspiraram frases e metáforas que descrevem o comportamento nipónico. Os japoneses imitaram-no e tentaram dançar com ele. Caçaram-no, mataram-no e comeram-no quase até à extinção. Deram o seu nome a cidades e a ruas. Fabricaram pequenos pássaros de papel dobrado e penduraram-nos cuidadosamente em grinaldas coloridas de templos e santuários…”

Hello my friends!

The preparations for the “Oporto Show 2012 – On Stage” continue and all of the pieces are being finished. This time we want to give you a glance of BOREAS Sideboard Piece and its complex and detailed production.

With 479 wooden slats, silver lacquered and assembled one by one on the exterior, this is the most hard working piece we had to make so far.

Every wooden slat had to be numbered according to its position, photographed and placed in the right position after being lacquered.

The interiors were made with 57 deconstructed puzzle shape pieces of wood, lacquered in bronze and silver colors. All of the pieces were painted, as well, one by one, so that the finishing would be perfect.

Perfect finishing, excellent materials and amazing crafts is what you get when you acquire a UNDA piece. STAY TUNED FOR THE FINAL PHOTOS :)

Os preparativos para o “Oporto Show 2012 – On Stage” continuam e todas as peças estão a ser finalizados.

Desta vez, queremos mostrar-lhes o Aparador BOREAS e sua complexa e detalhada produção. Com 479 ripas de madeira, lacadas a cor prata e montadas uma a uma no exterior, esta é a peça mais complicada de executar que tivemos de fazer até agora.

Cada ripa de madeira teve de ser numerados de acordo com a sua posição, fotografada e colocada na posição correcta depois de ser lacada.

Os interiores foram feitos com 57 peças de puzzle de madeira, pintadas em cores
bronze e prata. Todos as peças foram pintadas uma por uma, de modo a que o acabamento sosse perfeito.

Acabamento perfeito, materiais excelentes e ofícios surpreendentes é o que pode experar quando adquire uma peça UNDA. Fique atento para as fotos da peça final :)
